Trainer Trends for February By Ricky Taylor
January was another good month for followers of trainer trends. Charlie Mann was flagged up as a trainer to note and in the last week of the month alone he had five winners from 12 runners, including a 14 to 1 and an 11 to 1 winner. As predicted Nicky Henderson didn’t do as well as in previous months.
February also doesn’t look the month to follow his runners. Indeed, overall February is a funny month. In the first week or so of the month the big stables will give some of their Cheltenham runners a final prep but as things progress the big trainers will go quiet and other trainers will get their chance.
For the benefit of new readers I’ll just spend a few lines restating the methodology behind my monthly trainer trends. In order to produce meaningful results I’ve only considered the results from recent jump race seasons. Furthermore, I’ve excluded those trainers that had fewer than four winners in the month in question, and had fewer than 30 runners.
