<< Consistent Profits - Part 3  Trainer Trends For January By Ricky Taylor >>

Trainers are creatures of habit and certain trainers aim to bring their runners to peak form at different times of the year. Each month I’ll be highlighting trainers who have performed well in certain spheres for the forthcoming month.

Results date back to 1997 unless otherwise stated.

Venetia Williams
Runners in Novice races
Priced 10/1 or less

Only three of the runners priced bigger than 10/1 won (from 49 runners), so it seems prudent to concentrate on the runners priced 10/1 or less.

Venetia Williams would appear to target January for her Novice Hurdlers and Chasers to peak.

LTO winners in the top two in the weights won 41 of their 115 races for an £82.69 LSP.
This would suggest that Miss Williams does not overface her winners and is happy to bring them along gradually, rather than go for better class races. It therefore comes as no surprise to find that the record in Class 5 races was an impressive 35 wins from 100 runs, for a £22.07 LSP.

The market was also a very good guide with the top two in market winning 48 of their 124 races, but it should be noted that they only showed a small profit of £43.77 LSP. However by backing runners who also finished in the first 6 lto those figures become 48 wins from 96 runs and a £31.73 LSP

Sam Thomas won 16 of his 41 rides for the stable showing a £12.61 LSP. As he was still a claiming jockey for many of those rides it comes as no surprise to find that the stable’s record with claiming jockey’s was 18 wins from 43 rides, for a £17.96 LSP. Miss Williams has always had a good eye for an up and coming young jockey, the latest being the impressive Aidan Coleman.

Runners in Novice Handicaps did well, winning 15 of their 48 races, as did the occasional Mares winning four of their nine races, the Juveniles also did well winning four from 11.

Keep an eye out for the debutants at this time of year as they won seven of their nine races for a healthy £14.65 lsp
Runners coming from Newbury (six from 12) and Novice Hurdles (34 from 88) did well.

Runners coming from Towcester (one from 10), Maidens (one from 14) and from Juvenile races (one from nine) had a poor record.
