I would be wary of laying a horse which was clearly top rated, compared to other horses in a race. Loosely factor weight into your calculations, but don’t over exaggerate it. Race horses can weigh 1000lbs + and are very physically powerful. They can defy a few lead weights placed in the saddle quite easily. Think along the lines of working horses in history – pulling, barges, carts, ploughs etc, to put it in perspective.
