The Weekend Action – Cheltenham

by Kelly on January 27, 2012

Cheltenham (Sat 14.35)
Argento Chase Grade 2 (CLASS 1) (5yo+) G/ S 3m1f110y

The Argento, better known as the Letheby & Christopher Chase is a recognised Gold Cup trial, but in recent years it has failed to attract the very best staying chasers. The most notable winner in recent years was Exotic Dancer, who won the 2007 renewal before going on to finish 2nd to Kauto Star in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Don’t be surprised if there’s a shock result tomorrow, the race has been a graveyard for favourites and you have to go back to 1999 to find the last winning favourite. All but one of the last 4 winners and 4 of the last 6 winners have gone off at a double figure price; the shortest priced winner during that six year period was last year’s 11/2 winner Neptune Collonges.
