An interesting article on the Racing Post site yesterday about the over-rounds at various racecourses.
The average over-round is 1.7% per runner, which means that in a 10 runner race you can expect to bet at 117% which in turn means a series of random bets at SP would result in a 17% loss on monies invested over a large enough sample.
The focus of the article was Ffos Las which it turns out has been returning some huge over-rounds including a 7 runner race with SP’s of 131% and a 10 runner race with 143%.
Ffos Las more like Lost Fast!
You can read the whole article on the RP site here but the moral is that SP may be a reliable way of comparing betting approaches side by side it is not the best way to place your bets and we should spend as much time securing a good price as you do making your selection.
