How to Win at Greyhound Backing

By now you have probably realised that systems don’t have to be complicated to find winning bets.

They just need to focus on an angle that others have overlooked.

Todays is no exception.

During the course of each year we invite guest contributions from experienced and profitable
punters across a range of sports.

Recently we had the opportunity to pick the brains of a long standing greyhound owner and
winning punter who uses his inside knowledge to make decent returns from the world of
greyhound racing.

Shane Gilbert has developed his own way of dissecting the numerous form lines from many
of the popular tracks to produce his own ratings to ensure a flow of profitable selections.

He also uses systems and angles.

Today we have a method that capitalises on a known factor in greyhound racing that because
of his research Shane has been able to make it into a winning system.

The following is one example of the profitable methods which were published in the Betting
Insiders Report in a series of articles written by Shane.

Micro Laying Method

The system is simple.

For the tracks listed below make a note of all bitches that are due to run whose previous run
in an actual race (ignore trials) was 29 days or longer ago.

Lay these bitches to lose.

The tracks are…

Perry Barr
Sunderland
Newcastle
Oxford
Crayford
Monmore
Nottingham
Belle Vue
Hall Green
Kinsley

The method was checked over a five year period with SP + a generous uplift to simulate Betfair
prices and showed a profit in every month.

After we received the method rules from Shane we then ran it live for a month on actual Betfair
markets and produced the following results –

TRACK Bets Placed Winning Bets Strike Rate Profit
Perry Barr 13 12 92.31 7
Sunderland 5 4 80 -0.2
Newcastle 1 1 100 1
Oxford 8 7 88.5 4.6
Crayford 16 14 88.5 6
Monmore 14 12 85.79 5.9
Nottingham 15 13 86.66 6.9
Belle Vue 5 5 100 5
Hall Green 20 18 90 5.7
Kinsley 13 12 92.31 8.6
Overall 110 98 89.09 46.5

(Use the Racing Post cards to find these selections as the Betfair ones don’t include the sex of the dog.)

Our experience during the trial showed us that it took just a few minutes to glance at the cards of each of
the tracks scheduled to race each day and to find any suitable lay selections.

A very respectable profit from such a simple to follow method.

With 110 selections during our 4 week trial there is enough action, the only downside is that with the
greyhound markets you do need to be available at the off to secure a value price!

If you want to know more about why this works then do a search for “greyhound Bitch Season Pop”

Tomorrow we look at a sport that a lot of bettors overlook, but when there is straightforward money
to be made in a sport then we are interested.

  1. I have been reading your mails with interest. I have enjoyed betting with reasonable success over 20 years as a weekend hobby really. I have now stopped working and considering becoming a member to help earn through betting. I have often won good amounts at football by using permutations to lesson risk. I also used to own racehorses so I am well aware of the pitfalls in trying to find winners. Inside information is hard to get.

I guess research and attention to detail is the key to a profitable strategy.

  2. Can’t understand your final column. At Belle Vue, for example, there were 5/5 successful lays , which you note as 100%. Agreed. Then you say profit is “1”. Surely, this should be “5”, as in 5 units won? Am I being thick, because I don’t get the profit column, at all?

  3. THESE RESULTS YOU PUT UP DAILY ARE THEY FROM THE BETTING SCHOOL PORTFOLIO ONLY OR SRE THEY OTHERS THAT ARE PROOFING TO YOU AS WELL.

    1. Hi Colin

The winners come from the Club Portfolio and the Portfolio Contenders which are posted in the members forum each day.
