Plans for a new stadium for Liverpool Football Club have moved a stage further forward after the local Council approved a lease on Stanley Park which is just 300 yards away from their current home,(which they have used for 114 years,) at Anfield. The plans for the new stadium, which will allow seating for 60,000 now need to have the funding approved before building work can commence. The costs of the first phase of the new stadum are initially being quoted as £215 million, but at the moment the club have to show the Council that they can find £180 million before the end of September. If the money is seen to be available then the work would begin early in 2007 and the first match could then be played there in 2009. The scheme will not only provide a new stadium for Liverpool Football Club but also some community, education and sport facilities.
