Trainer Trends February 2009 by Ricky Taylor

January was another good month for followers of trainer trends. Charlie Mann was flagged up as a trainer to note and in the last week of the month alone he had five winners from 12 runners, including a 14 to 1 and an 11 to 1 winner. As predicted Nicky Henderson didn’t do as well as in previous months. February also doesn’t look the month to follow his runners. Indeed, overall February is a funny month. In the first week or so of the month the big stables will give some of their Cheltenham runners a final prep but as things progress the big trainers will go quiet and other trainers will get their chance.

Power Ratings

Before we begin exploring the topic of power ratings, I would like first to discuss just a basic rating and what it is. Ratings do seem to be a slightly misunderstood figure by quite a lot of people.

They are very often taken as the Holy Grail, and a clear top rated horse must have a bet placed on it.
