The Weekend Bulletin (Sat 21st July’18)
Last Saturday we highlighted the thoughts of a couple of the regular contributors to the Insiders Club Members Report, in the main because the duo of Alex Peperell and Alan Dudman independently reviewed the John Smith’s Cup and came to a similar conclusion regarding the same runner.
The horse in question was Thundering Blue and was available at 14/1 at the time of the reviews and having been held up in the rear he made steady headway over 2f out and stayed on well in the final furlong but couldn’t reel in the all the way winner, Euchen Glen. It was a solid run in defeat and at the original price it certainly offered an Each-Way play.
Each month the 52 pages of the Insiders Members Reports are crammed with a balanced mix of strategy and ante-post tips and in a recent edition Josh Wright who runs the popular racingtoprofit website shared a comprehensive pack of stats for the Summer Jumping Tracks.
Of course at the height of the summer most of the attention is focussed on the flat racing but there are still profits to be made from the National Hunt scene and one of the tracks covered in Josh’s pack was Cartmel who are due to hold a 7 race meeting on Saturday. With that in mind we thought we would highlight a few of the basic qualifiers from the profitable angles that were detailed in the report:-
Handicap Races/Peter Bowen
Wells De Lune (2.30pm) +Age (7-8) – C&D winner last month, up 7lb and a stronger race this time around but can still go well.
Chantara Rose (4.50pm) – Only 3 runs for current yard and may benefit from Richard Johnson taking the ride.
Trainer/Jockey Combo – J Moffatt/C Jones
Lough Kent (2.30pm) – Charlotte Jones has a decent strike rate for a 7lb conditional.
Wood Breizh (3.05pm) – Former Willie Mullins inmate and 1st time visor fitted after further wind surgery.
Race Distance/D McCain/2m6-6.5f
William Of Orange (3.05pm) – Last 4 runs read Won, Pulled-Up, Won and Last which may explain why cheekpieces are being fitted!
Volcanic (3.05pm) – Won easily last time out and up 8lb as a result in a higher grade race but showing an improving profile in 3 runs since wind surgery.
Now clearly a number of these are due to race against each other but none the less the comprehensive stat pack that Josh has compiled can pretty quickly highlight runners that based on the historical data are worthy of closer inspection. The Summer Jumping pack covers 5 of the tracks that hold meetings on a regular basis through to the end of September and we have every confidence that the numerous micro angles will uncover plenty of decent priced winners. Nakeeta enjoyed a fine 2017 campaign and is now back to his last winning mark when Callum Rodriguez’s claim is taken on board. No show in two starts this year but could bounce back. Stars Over The Sea looks a massive price on his penultimate start when second in a Group 3 in Ireland. Island Brave could exploit a 7lb lower turf mark and ran a cracker in the Northumberland Plate last time.
Island Brave @25/1 e/w (1/5 odds, 5 places)
Stars Over The Sea @33/1 e/w (1/5 odds, 5 places)
Nakeeta @28/1 e/w (1/5 odds, 5 places)
